Hoover Candy have confirmed that up to 337 jobs will be lost at their facility at Merthyr Tydfill. Unions have held crisis talks with managers at the Hoover headquarters in south Wales after Candy (who own Hoover) announced up to 337 manufacturing jobs could be lost.
The company, which makes washing machines and tumble driers in Merthyr Tydfil, said it could no longer make competitively-priced items at the site.
Unite and TUC members also met the Welsh deputy first minister.

Currys, Comet & Others Hit With Credit Insurance Woes
Both Currys (Dixons Stores Group) and Comet (Kesa Electricals) have been hit with bad news about their credit insurance in the past few days but these are only the headline grabbing names that are affected by this trend.
Much debt to companies, especially for large amounts, are insured against risk by the supplier so that, in the event that the company purchasing goods goes bust, the supplier still gets paid. However with the current financial climate insurers that traditionally supply this sort of cover against bad debts are either reducing the cover on offer or refusing cover altogether.

It with sadness that we have to report that Ralph Halford, the long time administrative engine of DASA (Domestic Appliance Trade Association) has died.
Many of us knew Ralph from DASA meetings stretching back many, many years and we would all like to offer our deepest sympathies.

Leading Turkish white goods maker Arcelik who trade as Beko in the UK have posted a huge fall in third-quarter consolidated net profit to 240,000 Turkish lira (£95,000) on Tuesday, due to the impact of the global financial crisis.
In the same period last year Arcelik, partly owned by Koc Holding, reported net profit of 65.68 million lira.
